Shreyas, Abhishek Fifties Lift India to 189 in First Innings
India has posted a strong total of 189 in the first innings, courtesy of Shreyas Iyer’s brilliant 68 runs. They will now look to defend this total in the second innings, however, it won’t be an easy task in front of blazing England batters.
Choosing to bat first, India started the innings on a high note, as Abhishek Sharma gave them a solid start in the Powerplay. England picked up two quick wickets in the second over, but Abhishek’s momentum gave India a good score in the Powerplay.
England then struck back by removing Sharma after the Powerplay, as the incoming Indian batters also failed to carry the momentum forward. Shreyas Iyer then played a steady hand to take the team out of trouble, scoring 68 off just 47 balls.
After his dismissal, England kept pressure on India, as Saqib Mahmood took back-to-back wickets to halt the scoring rate. As a result, India managed to score 189 at the end of the first innings, with Iyer remaining their highest scorer.
England will now aim to make a strong start in the second innings, as they have the batters who could set the tone early by smashing inexperienced Indian bowlers.
