Ghana Frustrate England in Tense Stalemate at FIFA World Cup 2026
England and Ghana both moved a step closer to the World Cup knockout stage after a slow 0-0 draw in Boston.
England started better and kept control for most of the early play, with Ghana barely getting on the ball in the opening stages.
Carlos Queiroz’s team stayed deep and tried to frustrate England, similar to their win over Panama, even as Declan Rice went close with a shot from distance.
Ghana grew into the game just before half-time, but still failed to register a shot, marking their ninth straight match without a first-half goal.
The second half also lacked real chances, with Anthony Gordon producing the first shot on target, but it was an easy save for Benjamin Asare.
Ghana found a bit more success with their direct style after that, while England’s changes from the bench added some spark. Still, clear chances only came in the last 10 minutes.
Prince Kwabena Adu broke forward with Antoine Semenyo, but Jordan Pickford came out quickly and stopped the move before it became dangerous.
Asare then pushed Bukayo Saka’s shot wide, and from the corner Nico O’Reilly’s header hit the crossbar, with Harry Kane blasting the rebound over the bar.
After keeping England out, Ghana are still one of the few teams in the tournament yet to concede a goal. England, meanwhile, looked far less sharp than they did in their 4-2 win over Croatia. As a result, the match ended in a draw, with both sides going back to the pavilion without scoring any goal.
