Ben Duckett Century Powers England to 387/3 in Series Decider at Lord's

Lord's: England posted a monumental total of 387/3 in their 50 overs after electing to bat first against India in the series-deciding 3rd ODI. Capitalizing on a beautifully flat batting track and the absence of India's spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, the English top-order completely dismantled the Indian bowling attack to set up a massive target. 

The tone of the innings was set early in powerplay by a magnificent opening partnership between Ben Duckett and Jacob Bethell. The dynamic duo added a staggering 192 runs for the first wicket to utterly exhaust the Indian fielders. Bethell looked well on his way to a maiden international century, playing a beautifully paced knock of 91 runs off 93 deliveries, with 11 boundaries and two sixes. However, his dream stay was cut short just nine runs away from the milestone when he was safely caught by Indian captain Rohit Sharma off the bowling of Prasidh Krishna in the 31st over.

Despite losing his opening partner, Ben Duckett continued his masterclass at the crease. The left-hander anchored the middle overs beautifully while maintaining an aggressive tempo, bringing up his fourth ODI century in front of a packed London crowd. Duckett eventually finished as the top scorer of the day, accumulating a marvelous 141 runs off 135 balls, an authoritative innings that included 18 boundaries and a six. His dismissal late in the innings, taken by Prince Yadav, did little to stall the host nation's compounding momentum.

 

Following the solid platform laid by the openers, the seasoned Joe Root stepped up to accelerate the run rate aggressively. 

Coming off a brilliant unbeaten 99 in the previous match, Root looked in pristine touch as he smashed a blistering 74 runs off just 48 balls. Utilizing clever sweeps and piercing gaps with extreme precision, Root hit nine boundaries to push the team past the 350-run mark. Meanwhile, a highly explosive cameo from wicketkeeper Jos Buttler towards the tail end added ultimate misery for India, as he blasted 41 runs off a mere 13 balls, boasting a jaw-dropping strike rate of 315.38 with four boundaries and three massive sixes. Harry Brook chipped in with a brisk 14 off 13 balls to see the hosts finish strongly.

India's bowling attack struggled massively to find their rhythm. Prasidh Krishna emerged as the most successful bowler numerically, returning figures of 2 for 69 in his 10 overs. Prince Yadav leaked 79 runs in his 10 overs but managed the lone scalp of Duckett, while Gurnoor Brar went completely wicketless, conceding 97 runs from his 10-over spell. Axar Patel went wicketless for 61 runs and Arshdeep Singh concluded a tough outing with figures of 0 for 72.
