Eng vs Ind 3rd ODI Powerplay Live: England Stable At 58/0

Eng vs Ind 3rd ODI Powerplay Live: England Stable At 58/0

LORD'S: England capitalised on a steady, wicketless Powerplay to post 58 for 0 after 10 overs, seizing the initial upper hand against India in the decisive third One-Day International at Lord’s.

Having won the toss and elected to bat, England’s new-look opening combination of Ben Duckett and the young Jacob Bethell navigated the early mandatory fielding restrictions with measured aggression and minimal risk. The decision by England’s leadership to bat first was fueled by the projection that the pitch would slow down significantly in the second half of the day. This tactical blueprint was execution-perfect in the opening ten overs, with both left-handers matching each other stroke for stroke.

India’s bowling attack, severely hampered by the pre-match loss of spearhead Jasprit Bumrah due to a left knee injury, struggled to extract early breakthroughs. Arshdeep Singh, drafted into the playing XI as Bumrah's direct replacement, struggled to find a consistent rhythm against the dual left-handed threat.

Despite testing the batters with occasional movement, Arshdeep yielded 19 runs from his opening three overs. At the other end, Prasidh Krishna initially applied severe pressure, delivering consecutive maiden overs to briefly tie down the home side. However, the introduction of Prince Yadav into the attack failed to stem the flow, as England's openers quickly targeted the change of pace to break the shackles.

Bethell was the first to assert dominance, matching Duckett's composure with crisp timing through the off-side. By the end of the tenth over, Bethell had raced to an unbeaten 25 off 31 deliveries, a knock punctuated by four elegant boundaries. Duckett, showcasing his trademark discipline outside the off-stump, complemented his partner perfectly, anchoring his end with 22 runs off 29 balls, including four hits to the fence.

India’s captain, Shubman Gill, quickly exhausted his frontline pace variations during the field restrictions but failed to break the 58-run opening stand. With the field now spreading out for the middle overs, India faces an uphill battle to stall England's momentum.
