England Lions registered a comfortable victory over Pakistan Shaheens in the one-day series opener at Abu Dhabi. Calvin Harrison was named Man of the Match, as he picked up three wickets in the first innings to dismantle the Shaheens on a low total.
Batting first, Pakistan Shaheens struggled from the start, as Maaz Sadaqat was dismissed by Potts on a duck. The rising star Sameer Minhas then came in at number three, but he also failed to provide any impetus to the batting. He lost his wicket after scoring just 11 runs, giving Pakistan Shaheens another blow at the start.
The middle order of Shaheens then played sensibly to absorb the pressure, as Saad Khan and Abdul Samad built a little partnership to take the scoreboard forward. The duo were looking good to bat big in the middle overs, but Jack and Harrison once again produced fine spells to dismiss them, giving the England Lions an edge in the match.
The lower middle order of Shaheens then failed miserably to fight back, as England Lions picked up regular wickets to restrict them to a low total. As a result, Pakistan Shaheens managed to post just 152 on the board at the end of the first innings.
When England came out to bat, they showcased complete domination against the Pakistan Shaheens bowlers. Their top order played confidently to negate the opening attack, as Ben McKinney and Asa Tribe showcased their class from the start of the innings. The inexperienced Shaheens attack didn’t have answers for them, as Asa Tribe hit a brilliant fifty to take the game away from Pakistan. Due to his fabulous innings of 52 runs, England Lions cruised to the target while losing just one wicket. They completed the chase inside 25 overs, making a big statement at the start of the three-match one-day series at Abu Dhabi.
