England Lions defeated Pakistan Shaheens in a thriller to complete the clean sweep in a three-match T20 series. Jordan Cox was their star performer, as he scored brilliant 75 runs in the second innings to seal the chase for the England Lions.
Batting first, Pakistan Shaheens faced a horrible start, as the captain Shamyl Hussain went back to the pavilion on a duck. After his dismissal, Maaz Sadaqat took the responsibility to hit boundaries, but he didn’t find support from the other batters. The rising sensation Sameer Minhas failed to make an impact, as he was dismissed by Scott Currie after scoring just 10 runs.
By losing two wickets early, the Shaheens came under immense pressure, as England Lions bowled smartly to maintain an upper hand over them. Due to their tight bowling, Abdul Samad and Hasan Nawaz also lost their wickets, which exposed the fragilities of the middle order.
Meanwhile, Maaz Sadaqat kept playing positively at one end, showcasing his ability to adapt according to the situation. He scored a superb fifty in the first innings, which allowed Pakistan Shaheens to post a respectable total of 162 towards the end.
When England came out to bat, they also struggled early due to losing Will Smeed. His dismissal brought the in-form Jordan Cox to the crease, who played a stunning knock to stun the green shirts in the second innings.
Despite finding little support from the other batters, Jordan Cox kept playing his shots in the middle to take the chase forward. His innings of 75 runs eventually proved to be the decisive factor, as it allowed England Lions to seal the chase in the last over of the match. Pakistan Shaheens exhibited a valiant effort to defend the target, however, England held their nerves towards the end to win the game by 2 wickets.
