England in Early Trouble During Powerplay as India Strike Early in 2nd ODI

CARDIFF: Jasprit Bumrah and the Indian bowling unit unleashed an absolute storm in the opening Powerplay at Sophia Gardens, reducing England to a shaky 51 for 2 after 10 overs in their pursuit of 234. 

The hosts, aiming to bounce back after a first-match loss, endured a nightmare start to their innings that swung the momentum entirely back into India’s corner.

Bumrah’s First-Ball Magic

The drama ignited with the very first delivery of the chase. Indian spearhead Jasprit Bumrah produced a sensational, trademark delivery that trapped England opener Ben Duckett caught behind for a golden duck. Coming around the wicket, Bumrah's late inswinging length ball completely deceived Duckett, who played across the line and was struck flush on the pads. The umpire's finger went up immediately, giving India the ultimate dream start and leaving the Cardiff crowd stunned.

Prasidh Compounds the Misery

With England rocked at 0 for 1, Jacob Bethell joined the experienced Joe Root to steady a sinking ship. Bethell showed glimpses of intent, driving confidently through the covers to get his scoreboard ticking. However, India's tandem pressure proved unrelenting. In the 4th over, Prasidh Krishna extracted a sharp bounce from the deck. Bethell (4 off 10 balls) tried to steer a back-of-a-length delivery but only managed a thick outside edge into the gloves of wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan, leaving England in a dismal state at 8 for 2.

Root and Brook Counter-Attack

Staring down the barrel of an early collapse, Joe Root was joined by the aggressive skipper Harry Brook. Sensing the need to shift the tactical pressure back onto the tourists, the duo staged a gritty, counter-attacking partnership. Brook, in particular, looked to break the shackles by targeting the boundary ropes, including a beautifully timed scoop that sailed over the boundary for a massive six. 

Root anchored from the other end, displaying exemplary textbook technique to milk singles and rotate strike against the moving white ball. By the time the mandatory 10-over field restrictions were lifted, England managed to drag themselves to 51 for 2. Root remained unbeaten on 25, while Brook added a quickfire 16 to keep the chase alive.
