England Eye Landmark T20I Tour of Nepal in Upcoming FTP Cycle

England Eye Landmark T20I Tour of Nepal in Upcoming FTP Cycle

The England and Wales Cricket Board is exploring the possibility of a short white-ball tour to Nepal during the 2027-31 FTP cycle. If finalised, England would become the biggest international team to play a bilateral series in Nepal.

The proposed visit is expected to include a two or three-match T20I series, potentially scheduled before another white-ball assignment in Asia.

Nepal’s Cricket Rise Gains Attention

Nepal cricket has grown rapidly in recent years. The national side achieved a major breakthrough last year after defeating West Indies in the UAE to secure their first bilateral series victory against a full ICC member.

Although Nepal have not yet hosted a full tour by a Test-playing nation, progress continues off the field as well. Earlier this year, Cricket Ireland announced a five-year partnership with the Cricket Association of Nepal, including plans for a white-ball series in Nepal during the 2026-27 winter.

World Cup Meeting Sparked Discussions

England and Nepal met during the T20 World Cup in February at Wankhede Stadium, where England secured a thrilling final-ball win.

Following the match, former Nepal captain Paras Khadka reportedly held discussions with ECB officials regarding Nepal’s cricket future.

Nepal captain Rohit Paudel previously said: "It would mean a lot, especially if Australia or England comes to Nepal. That would show world cricket [that] Nepal also plays cricket, and plays decent cricket… It is very important."

Khadka also highlighted the importance of exposure for Nepal cricket.

"What Nepal cricket needs right now is exposure," Khadka said.

The possible England tour of Nepal is being viewed as another important step in the continued Nepal cricket growth story.
