Harry Brook Stars as England Defeat Sri Lanka in T20I Opener at Southampton

England made a strong start to their three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, winning the opening game by 119 runs at the Rose Bowl on Tuesday. Harry Brook led the charge with the bat, smashing a brilliant century before Sony Baker delivered a quality bowling spell to knock Sri Lanka out for just 135 in the second innings.

Batting first, England posted a huge total of 254 on the board, with Brook and Buttler leading the way with the bat.

Brook played an attacking innings of 114 from 49 balls. His knock included 10 fours and 6 sixes, giving England the perfect platform for a huge total.

Buttler also kept the scoring rate high throughout his innings, hitting 80 from 44 deliveries. The wicketkeeper-batter struck eight boundaries and three sixes during his stay at the crease.

England also got useful runs from their middle and lower order. Aneurin Donald marked his debut with 12 from five balls, including a four and a six. Will Jacks scored 21 from 12 deliveries and hit two sixes, while Tom Banton finished with 10 from 10 balls.

The bowling performance of Sri Lanka in the first innings was quite meek, as the home side kept them under pressure with continuous onslaught. They managed to get just four wickets in the first innings, with Dushmantha Chameera, Dunith Wellalage, Eshan Malinga and Wanindu Hasaranga each picking up one wicket.

In the second innings, Sri Lanka never got close to the target, as they were bowled out for 135 in 19 overs. England's bowlers kept the pressure on throughout the chase, with Sonny Baker remaining as their most notable striker.

Dunith Wellalage offered some resistance in the middle order, putting together 33 from 21 balls with four fours and two sixes. Dasun Shanaka also tried to lift the scoring rate, hitting 24 off 14 deliveries with a four and two sixes.

Apart from them, none of the other batters could put up much resistance, as England kept taking wickets with some high-quality bowling. As a result, Sri Lanka were eventually bowled out for just 135, giving England a comfortable victory by 119 runs in the first T20I.

The English captain Harry Brook was then named Man of the Match after playing an outstanding knock in the first innings. His blazing century precisely set the tone for England, as Sri Lanka ran out of answers against his blistering onslaught.
