Gordon, Kane Shine as England Beat Czech Republic To Secure First Nations League Win

England got their UEFA Nations League campaign up and running with a 2-0 win over the Czech Republic, with Anthony Gordon and Harry Kane both finding the net. It was a disappointing result for the Czech Republic, as it marked their second straight loss at home in the ongoing season.

England started the match on a strong note and were close to taking the lead in the early minutes when Morgan Rogers found space inside the box and hit the post. The ball fell to Elliot Anderson and then Bukayo Saka, but neither could get a shot through the Czech defence.

England were then handed another advantage when VAR reviewed Sulc’s challenge on Anderson and changed his yellow card to a red. This brought immense pressure on the home side, as going one man down disrupted all their gameplans.

Interestingly, the home side kept their defence firm despite receiving a red card, which did not allow England to score in the first half. They did get a few chances before the whistle, but the Czech goalkeeper comfortably saved them to keep the score 0-0.

However, England did not have to wait long after the break to take the lead. Just over a minute into the second half, Gordon headed Trent’s cross into the bottom corner to make it 1-0.

The home side then tried to equalize with a quick attack, however, England’s numerical advantage didn’t allow them to move past the midfield.

Kane then put the result beyond doubt after reacting quickly to a loose ball inside the box and firing it into the net, leaving the Czech Republic with no way back.

James Trafford was then called into action as he had to make a strong save to keep England’s lead intact after Adam Hlozek’s shot. It was one of those moments when England’s defence looked vulnerable, but Trafford did well to prevent the Czech Republic from getting on the scoresheet.

The visitors then remained solid at the back in the closing stages, making sure to keep their clean sheet intact. As a result, they wrapped up the match convincingly, showcasing why they are still a top side in the ongoing competition.
