ENG vs PAK 3rd Test: Ollie Robinson Becomes 50th English Bowler to Reach 100 Test Wickets

BIRMINGHAM: Ollie Robinson became the 50th English bowler to reach 100 Test wickets after dismissing Saim Ayub on the opening day of the third Test against Pakistan at Edgbaston on Wednesday.

The milestone came in Robinson’s 24th Test, when he trapped Ayub lbw for a 10-ball duck. The dismissal also extended Robinson’s strong run in the series, with the 32-year-old already England’s leading wicket-taker against Pakistan.

Robinson’s 100 wickets have come at an average of 19.34, giving him the seventh-best bowling average among players with at least a century of Test wickets. Only six bowlers have recorded a better figure in that category: George Lohmann (10.75), Sydney Barnes (16.43), Charlie Turner (16.53), Bobby Peel (16.98), Johnny Briggs (17.75) and Colin Blythe (18.63).

Robinson Joins England's 100-wicket club

Robinson now sits alongside some of England’s most successful Test bowlers. James Anderson remains the country’s leading wicket-taker with 704 wickets from 188 Tests, followed by Stuart Broad on 604 from 167 matches. Sir Ian Botham is third with 383 wickets in 102 Tests.

The achievement comes during one of Robinson’s most productive stretches against Pakistan. He has taken 17 wickets in the ongoing series at an economy rate of 1.98, including two four-wicket hauls and a five-wicket haul.

Robinson’s latest wicket came against a Pakistan side featuring the returning Ayub at the top of the order. The left-hander had little time at the crease before Robinson’s delivery struck him in front, giving the England seamer the landmark wicket.

With the third Test underway, Robinson has added another significant entry to his Test record while continuing to lead England’s attack in the series.
