ENG vs PAK 2nd Test Day 3: Dan Lawrence Half-Century Keeps Dominant England in Control

LORD'S: England remain firmly in a strong position to control the outcome of the 2nd Test against Pakistan after a rain-delay session, driving their second-innings lead past the 350-run mark on a heavily weather-interrupted Day 3. 

While overcast skies and multiple downpours have forced the players on and off the field, the hosts have successfully chipped away to reach 177 for 7, leaving the tourist's bowling attack with an uphill mountain to climb. The defining feature of the afternoon sessions has been a crucial, attacking Dan Lawrence half-century. Arriving at the crease under heavy clouds with the ball nipping around, Lawrence showed excellent tactical awareness to anchor the lower order. 

Rather than retreating into a defensive shell against a probing Pakistan pace battery, he countered aggressively. Lawrence particularly targeted the left-arm spin of Ali Usman, breaking the shackles with sharp sweeping and decisive footwork to bring up his milestone off just 64 deliveries. His ongoing presence has ensured England’s lead continues to swell into unassailable territory. Earlier, Pakistan fought back with commendable discipline using the famous Lord's slope. 

Spearheaded by veteran seamer Mohammad Abbas, who relentlessly hit a demanding line to pick up 3 for 48, the visitors managed to trigger a mid-innings wobble. Abbas captured the prized wicket of Joe Root (24) leg-before-wicket, marking a continuing trend of lbw dismissals for the former captain. 

Supported by Khurram Shahzad, Pakistan’s quicks exploited the moisture in the deck to slide England from their overnight comfort down to 128 for 5, briefly offering the touring fans a glimmer of hope.However, England’s massive 180-run first-innings cushion has cushioned them against panic. That advantage was forged on Day 2 during a blistering Ollie Robinson bowling masterclass, where his sensational figures of 4 for 11 dismantled the visitors for a meager 110.

Compounding Pakistan's troubles as they try to keep the match alive is a severe Imam-ul-Haq calf strain. The opening batsman was unable to feature in the first innings and remains a major doubt to take the field. Staring down a massive deficit a batsman short, Pakistan faces an incredibly steep task once the skies clear. 

With plenty of cricket left in the Test match, England stands poised to dictate when to pull the trigger on a declaration.
