ENG vs PAK 1st Test Day 3 Live: Archer Strikes Early as England Push Pakistan to the Brink

ENG vs PAK 1st Test Day 3 Live: Archer Strikes Early as England Push Pakistan to the Brink

LEEDS: England firmly seized control of the England vs Pakistan 1st Test on Day 3 at Headingley, putting themselves in a commanding position to wrap up a dominant victory. After a rain-interrupted morning session, the hosts concluded their first innings with a massive lead before their disciplined pace attack triggered an immediate, familiar collapse in the visitors' top order.

Resuming their first innings on an overnight score of 366 for 8, England looked to stretch their already substantial 195-run advantage. Overnight batter Jamie Smith, alongside Jofra Archer, played with calculated aggression to push the total beyond the 400-run milestone. Smith chipped in with a vital 25, while Archer’s quick-fire cameo added crucial runs to the tail before Pakistan's Khurram Shahzad wrapped up the innings. England was finally bowled out for 409, securing a colossal first-innings lead of 238 runs.

Despite the lower-order surge, the standout performer for the visitors was left-arm spinner Ali Usman, who fought valiantly in adversity to claim a sensational maiden five-wicket haul, finishing with figures of 5 for 92. However, any momentum Pakistan hoped to carry from Usman's milestone vanished immediately upon taking the crease for their second innings.

Facing a daunting mountain to climb, the Pakistani batsmen crumbled under relentless overhead conditions and surgical swing bowling from the English pacers. Opener Imam-ul-haq got out in the 2nd over by Archer. The early collapse began almost instantly. Operating with a brand new ball, speedster struck again critically and trapped opener Azan Awais for just 9 runs.

By the time, England vs Pakistan 1st Test Day 3 had transformed into a procession, leaving Pakistan reeling at a dismal 23 for 2 after just 9.4 overs. With Shan Masood holding the fort alongside Abdullah Shafique, the visitors still trail England’s first-innings total by a staggering 215 runs with only eight wickets remaining.
