Durban Super Giants completed a big win over Paarl Royals, courtesy of a breathtaking century by their captain, Aiden Markram. His knock of 108 runs allowed DSG to post a big total of 189 in the first innings. This massive target gave DSG a decisive edge in the match, as Paarl Royals failed to chase it down in the second innings.
Durban Super Giants started their batting innings with a new top order consisting of Sunil Narine and Aiden Markram. Unfortunately, it didn’t work according to plan, as the Royals dismissed Narine early for just 4 runs. The incoming batter, Jos Buttler, also lost his wicket for only 1 run, adding more pressure on the Super Giants.
Aiden Markram then built a partnership with Kane Williamson to steady the innings. After absorbing the pressure, he started playing his shots to lift the scoring rate of the team. This brought the pressure back on Royals who found no success in removing Markram from the crease during the middle overs.
Despite losing wickets, Aiden Markram kept playing his shots with a positive intent till the end. Due to that, he scored a superlative century off just 58 balls, hitting 12 fours and 5 sixes. It was a stunning century from the captain that allowed Durban Super Giants to post 189 on the board at the end of the innings.
When Paarl Royals came out to bat, they looked out of form from the first over. Their openers fell cheaply, as DSG bowlers took quick wickets by bowling tight spells. Due to scoreboard pressure, the middle order also failed to provide any resistance, giving the Super Giants a huge edge in the match.
The lower order of Paarl Royals then put up some fight, as Sikandar Raza and Bjorn Fortuin built a little partnership. Their short cameos didn’t cause much trouble for DSG, as they kept things tight in the final overs. As a result, Durban Super Giants successfully restricted Paarl Royals to 131 and won the match by a big margin of 58 runs.
