US President Donald Trump Set to Attend FIFA World Cup Final on Sunday

Donald Trump is set to be in attendance when Spain and Argentina meet in Sunday's FIFA World Cup final. The US president will also present the trophy to the winning team, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed recently.

The final between defending champions Argentina and European champions Spain is expected to attract more than 80,000 fans at New York Stadium. Another 50,000 people are expected to watch the match from Central Park in Manhattan.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino said on June 23 that Trump would present the World Cup trophy to the winners after the final on July 19.

For the unversed, Infantino and the US president have developed a close relationship in recent months. In December, Infantino presented Trump with the first FIFA Peace Prize, a new award created by the football governing body.

"We look forward to the final match on Sunday, and I know the president looks forward to attending," White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said at a press conference.

"His attendance will cap what has been the most watched, most secure, and most successful World Cup in American history." added Karoline Leavitt.

The upcoming FIFA World Cup final between Spain vs Argentina is expected to be a thrilling contest, as both teams are stacked with top football stars. Many fans are rooting for Argentina to defend their title, however, Spain is also confident to lift the trophy for just the second time in their history.
