India, having the power to play first, took the best advantage with Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill. The young pair provided India with the dream start, as they contributed 77 runs within a bit more than six overs. The star of the night was Abhishek, who made 75 out of only 37 balls, with half a dozen fours and half a dozen sixes. His fearless swing of the bat rattled the Bangladeshi bowlers and gave India a leg-up.
Gill had made 29 off 19 balls that he faced, hitting two fours and a six, before falling after the powerplay. Shivam Dube dropped cheaply, but Hardik Pandya helped in levelling the middle order with a convenient 39 off 29 balls. His level-headed knock saw India make it past the 160 mark and they ended up 168-6 in their 20 overs.
Later on, the bowlers of Bangladesh brought it back, and Rishad Hossain had 2/27 in his three overs. Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Mustafizur Rahman also bowled in a disciplined manner to ensure that India did not score more than 200 total.
Pursuing 169, Bangladesh had to make a good beginning but failed under the pressure. Jasprit Bumrah bowled first to keep them on the backfoot, and since then, India continued screwing them. The actual harm was, however, done in the middle overs by Kuldeep Yadav.
The strategic spin by Kuldeep destroyed the batting line-up of Bangladesh because he took three crucial wickets and ruined the pursuit altogether. Towhid Hridoy and Shamim Hossain put up a token opposition, but as wickets were falling at frequent intervals, the chances of Bangladesh pursuing the target in the near future were lost.
The lower order fought until it was too late, but Bangladesh was only able to score 127 runs in 19.3 overs, which gave India an easy 41-run victory. Not only was this a blow to their momentum, but it also virtually knocked out their next fight with Pakistan.
In Bangladesh, it was their failure to transform their starts into large partnerships, most particularly against the quality spin attack of India. Facing pressure, their batting was shallow, and their earlier bowlers' work was in vain.
The victory made India the first team to qualify for the Asia Cup 2025 final. Sri Lanka was also knocked out of the competition, with only Bangladesh and Pakistan remaining to fight it out to become the second finalist.
It was a declaration of intentions by India, as they were able to perform strongly at the top of the order and in the bowling department. In the case of Bangladesh, the future is not smooth, yet not completely over, since they will be able to determine which one of them will finally confront India because of the conflict with Pakistan.
