SYLHET – Dhaka Capitals showcased a clinical performance to outclass Rajshahi Warriors by five wickets in Saturday’s Bangladesh Premier League clash at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. From the first ball, Capitals set the tone, and Rajshahi never managed to find momentum despite a late surge from Mohammad Nawaz.

Early Strikes Set the Tone

Electing to field, Dhaka Capitals struck immediately, as Imad Wasim opened with a sharp delivery that accounted for Pakistan batter Sahibzada Farhan on the very first ball. The blow jolted Rajshahi, who struggled to settle, but Najmul Hossain Shanto, coming off an unbeaten century in the previous match, tried to anchor the innings. He managed 37 off 28 balls, peppering the boundary ropes twice and clearing them twice more over the ropes.

But wickets fell at regular intervals; however, Mushfiqur Rahim provided some resistance, scoring 24 off 23 deliveries, while Mohammad Nawaz tried to stabilize the lower-order with an unbeaten 26. Rajshahi’s innings never gained traction, and the team eventually posted a modest 132 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs.

Imad Wasim Runs Through the Warriors

The Capitals’ bowling attack was disciplined throughout. Imad Wasim produced a career-best display in this BPL season, finishing with figures of 3 for 16. Nasir Hossain picked up two wickets, while Salman Mirza, Ziaur Rahman, and Mohammad Saifuddin claimed one.

Dhaka Capitals’ Chase Anchored by Mamun

Chasing a modest total, opener Saif Hassan fell early for just one in the second over, but Abdullah Al Mamun took charge and scored 45 off 39 balls.

Late Flourish Seals the Game

After Mamun’s dismissal, Sabbir Rahman immediately signaled his intent with a fast 21 off just 10 deliveries. His massive six over long-on  sealed the match for Dhaka Capitals by the 19th over with five wickets in hand.

For Rajshahi, Mohammad Nawaz picked up three wickets, while Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Sandeep Lamichhane took one apiece. Despite their efforts, the bowling attack could not contain the Capitals’ middle-order momentum.

Fielding Moments Highlighted by Imad Wasim

Imad Wasim was not just influential with the ball, he saved multiple runs in the field with quick reflexes and athletic dives. His presence at both ends created pressure that contributed significantly to Rajshahi’s inability to accelerate.

Rajshahi’s Missed Opportunities

Rajshahi Warriors could not capitalize on moments that might have shifted momentum. Early breakthroughs by the Capitals, combined with dropped chances, meant the innings never settled. Shanto’s effort stood out but was insufficient on a day when Dhaka played a near-perfect brand of T20 cricket.
