"Definitely, we will go for win": Salman Ali Agha Dares Bangladesh to Set Target

MIRPUR: Pakistan all-rounder Salman Ali Agha has indicated the visitors will pursue victory in the first Test against Bangladesh if presented with a realistic target on the final day at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

At stumps on day four, Bangladesh national cricket team had moved to 152 for 3 in their second innings, extending their overall lead to 179 runs. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto remained unbeaten on 58, while Mushfiqur Rahim was not out on 16. Play during the day was limited due to rain interruptions and fading light.

Pakistan’s Approach to Final Day

Speaking after the close of play, Agha said Pakistan’s immediate priority is to take wickets early on the fifth day and bring the match into a result scenario.

"Right now, you can't say who has the upper hand in this game. I think tomorrow is going to be an exciting day of Test cricket. We just want to get them out as quickly as we can; that's what our strategy is going to be," said Agha.

He added that Pakistan would consider a chase if Bangladesh opted to declare and set a target within a limited timeframe.

"Definitely, we will go for win if they are brave enough to give us 70 overs and a target of 260. We will definitely go for the chase, but I don't think they will do that."

Conditions and Match Situation

The surface in Mirpur has shown variable behaviour, making scoring uncertain as the match progresses. Agha suggested that Pakistan would assess conditions before committing fully to a chase.

"If they give us two sessions and something around 250, we will definitely go for the chase first, and then we'll see how the pitch is playing. But right now, we want to win this game."

He later clarified his remarks, stating that his comments were focused on match strategy rather than questioning the opposition.

"I'm not saying they are not brave enough or anything like that. I'm just saying that, for them, the best thing would be to take us out of the game first and then set us a target," Agha clarified.

"But if they give us 70 overs and a target of 260 or 270, then we will be in the game as well, and personally I want them to do that."
