David Miller is all set to return in the upcoming T20I series against India. He is making a comeback to the Proteas squad after a long period of time. His last appearance for South Africa was in Champions Trophy when he played the tournament semi-final in March. He is therefore confident to make an impact in the upcoming matches, as South Africa will require his belligerence with the bat to win the T20I series against India.

Watching South Africa perform well in the recent test matches was heartening for David Miller. Although he was not part of the squad, he was backing the Proteas from home while continuing an intense training schedule to make a strong comeback.

"It's just great to be back. It's been great watching the guys back at home even though I always feel I want to be there, but the guys have been doing so well, and it's been lovely to watch," said David Miller.

"It's been an interesting couple of months for me, just being at home and reflecting on a few things was really cool. I moved into a different space by trying out different things with my body and tapping into a few different training regimes.” added David Miller.

He then said confidently that his body is more fit and ready to go in the upcoming matches. This is certainly a good sign for the Proteas, because Miller is one of their key batters in the middle order.

“It was actually a really good time away. I enjoyed it. You've got to take the positives from what's negative so it was really good. I'm feeling strong. I'm feeling fit and I'm feeling ready to go." said David Miller.

The star South African batter then shared some useful thoughts on what it takes to win a World Cup. He said it is a complete team effort, where players must manage the tough moments together.

"I've spoken to a lot of different people and teams that have been very successful over the years with league trophies and World Cups and I don't think there's really one recipe to win a World Cup. It takes a team effort, it takes a group effort, management and players included. And it's about standing up when the moments matter," said David Miller.

Drawing Inspiration from Previous ICC Tournaments

He then spoke about South Africa’s previous World Cup campaigns, where the team performed well and came close to winning the title. Drawing confidence from those tournaments, he is optimistic about doing well in the 2026 T20 World Cup, which will be played in India and Sri Lanka.

"Looking back on that previous World Cup where we got to the final, there were some very, very close games throughout that World Cup and we got over the line, so you build confidence as you go along.” said David Miller.

“We're going to need some of that moving forward. In terms of players, there's a huge group and pool of players that are putting up their hands so it's going to be tough for the selectors. We're really in a good space." added David Miller.

Speaking about his own form and fitness, Miller said that he is focusing to remain fit by following a precise training schedule. He understands his importance in the team, which is why he is looking forward to perform consistently in the upcoming matches.

"Obviously, I would love to play a part for South Africa as long as I can, but it's just being real with certain conversations and time. I'm 36 now and I'm feeling that I do have to step up off the field. I'm being a lot more diligent and a lot more consistent in training and being as fit as I can is something that I'm going to focus on a lot.” said David Miller.

“I'm also a lot more in control with my emotions and pressure. I'm a lot clearer in my thinking, making better decisions under pressure and understanding the match situation." concluded David Miller.
