West Indies’ Prolonged Stay in India Sparks Sammy’s Frustration

West Indies’ Prolonged Stay in India Sparks Sammy’s Frustration

West Indies head coach Darren Sammy has urged the Caribbean cricket administrators to take quick measures for the team’s return to their homeland. He expressed his frustration on social media following the reports of widespread international flights cancellation across the Middle East.

“I just wanna go home”, said Darren Sammy on social media.

Sammy then came up with a follow-up post, stating that no one has shown up to let the team know when they would be returning home.

“At least an update, tell us something. Today tmw, next week. It’s been 5 days,” said West Indies head coach, Darren Sammy.

Meanwhile, it was recently reported that a charter flight is being arranged by Cricket West Indies (CWI) for the team to travel back home. According to the board’s statement, the departure time of the charter flight will be "within the next 24 hours," subject to final air traffic approvals.

"CWI has remained in constant dialogue with the players, team management, and the International Cricket Council (ICC) since their last match against India," said the CWI statement.

“While the situation remains complex and fluid due to international airspace restrictions arising from security concerns in the Gulf region, CWI assures the public that every precaution is being taken to ensure the safe return of the team to the Caribbean." added the CWI statement.

Talking about Zimbabwe, some of their squad members have left India after the ICC reworked their travel arrangements. The players who are still in the country will also leave shortly, as the board announced through a statement that the team will return to Harare in batches.

"Zimbabwe Cricket confirms that the Zimbabwe senior men's team participating in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 are on their way home from India after the International Cricket Council secured alternative travel arrangements following recent transit disruptions. Due to flight availability and revised routing, the squad will return to Harare in batches.” said Zimbabwe Cricket said in a statement.

"Zimbabwe's original travel route was via Dubai on an Emirates flight but it had to be altered. It has been learnt that Zimbabwe are now travelling to Harare via Addis Ababa, Ethiopia." added the statement.
