Cristiano Ronaldo Retirement Speculation Emerges at 2026 FIFA World Cup
Cristiano Ronaldo's sister has hinted that the 2026 FIFA World Cup could be the legendary forward's last dance for Portugal. Her comments came on the day Portugal faced Croatia in the Round of 32.
Cristiano Ronaldo made history by becoming one of only three players, alongside Lionel Messi and Guillermo Ochoa, to appear in six FIFA World Cups. He also became the first player to score in six different World Cups, adding another milestone to his remarkable career.
Now, Ronaldo continues to face questions about when he plans to retire from both international and club football.
The Al Nassr captain has never confirmed a retirement date. Last year, he only suggested that he hoped to play for a couple more years. However, his sister, Kátia Aveiro, has now sparked fresh talk by suggesting that his time with the Portugal national team could soon come to an end after the FIFA World Cup 2026.
“From the information I have, he can say goodbye. Enjoy it while it lasts. It’s not today that he’s saying goodbye, but it’s soon.” said Kátia Aveiro while speaking to the reporters at the BMO Field in Toronto.
“I believe this is his farewell. Enjoy it a lot. It will be difficult to find someone like him.” added Cristiano Ronaldo's sister Kátia Aveiro.
If Ronaldo does retire from international football after the 2026 FIFA World Cup, he will hope to end his Portugal career on the highest note by lifting the trophy on July 19. Winning the World Cup is the one major title missing from his collection, and claiming it would be the perfect way to bring an unforgettable journey to a close.
