The 40-year-old forward confirmed that the 2026 FIFA World Cup could be his final appearance for Portugal. The year can end one of the most astonishing careers ever witnessed.

Speaking at a Saudi forum via video link, Ronaldo looked calm yet reflective. When asked directly if the 2026 tournament would be his last, he didn’t hesitate. “Definitely, yes. I’ll be 41, and I think that will be the moment,” he said.

That one line hit fans like a thunderclap.

He later added, “Let’s be honest, when I say soon, it’s probably one or two years. I’ll still be in the game, but not for long.” You could hear the mix of confidence and nostalgia in his voice. That tone only comes when a legend knows the finish line is in sight.

Since joining Al Nassr in 2023, Cristiano Ronaldo has become a symbol of fitness and confidence. The Saudi Pro League suddenly feels alive in a new way. Stars are showing up, chasing either one last challenge or one final payday. And Ronaldo keeps scoring and pushing the limits. Over 950 goals across clubs and the country. Numbers like that don’t just happen. They almost feel unreal.

Portugal is inching closer to the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. A win over Ireland could seal their spot. You can sense the urgency in the team, the hunger to give Ronaldo one last crack at the trophy that has so often dodged him.

Fans still talk about 2006. A fiery young Ronaldo, barely out of his teens, is leading Portugal to the semi-finals. That feels like another lifetime. And yet here he is, two decades later, still pushing, still demanding, still capable of moments that make the crowd hold its breath.

This isn’t just about stats anymore. It’s about presence. It’s about what he brings to the pitch, the confidence, the charisma, the almost electric pull that lifts everyone around him. Not many expected this chapter in Saudi football to unfold like this, but it has.

But one thing is certain, you can feel it in the air. Something big is coming; the same man who once wept on that stage could be saying goodbye on football’s biggest platform.

He already holds every major international scoring record. He has 143 goals for Portugal, the most goals in World Cup qualifiers, and is still counting. Yet, the man who never settles for enough seems ready to embrace the inevitable.

In a recent chat with Piers Morgan, Ronaldo admitted retirement won’t be easy. “It will be difficult? Yes. Probably I’ll cry, yes. I’m an open person. It will be very, very difficult,” he said softly. You could almost feel the vulnerability behind the legend’s grin.

Still, few athletes have rewritten football’s rules the way he has. From Lisbon to Madrid, Turin to Riyadh, Ronaldo’s fire has never dimmed. Maybe that’s why this moment feels heavier than most.

Whenever the final whistle does come, one thing’s certain. The roar for Ronaldo won’t fade quickly. It might echo for generations.
