‘Complete Loss of Control’ – Real Zaragoza Goalkeeper Sparks Mass Pitch Brawl

‘Complete Loss of Control’ – Real Zaragoza Goalkeeper Sparks Mass Pitch Brawl

Real Zaragoza goalkeeper Esteban Andrada could face disciplinary action following an altercation during his side’s 1-0 loss to SD Huesca in Spain’s second division. The incident took place deep into stoppage time after tensions rose during a closely fought relegation battle.

The Real Zaragoza goalkeeper had already been shown a second yellow card after clashing with a Huesca player near the end of the match. Moments later, Andrada confronted Huesca captain Jorge Pulido, triggering a confrontation between players from both teams.

The situation escalated into a mass altercation, with Huesca goalkeeper Dani Jimenez and Zaragoza defender Dani Tasende also dismissed by the referee.

Club and Player Respond

Following the match, Zaragoza issued a statement criticising the events and confirming that internal disciplinary measures would be considered.

“We witnessed scenes unbecoming of this sport and which should never have occurred,” the club said.

“These events do not represent the values of Real Zaragoza or its fans, who throughout its history have been characterized by sportsmanship, courage, and respect for the opponent.”

Andrada later apologised publicly and accepted responsibility for his actions. The Argentine, currently on loan from CF Monterrey, said the incident did not reflect his professional standards.

“The truth is I'm very, very sorry for what happened,” Andrada said.

“I also want to apologize to Jorge Pulido because we are colleagues, and honestly, it was my fault, I lost focus at that moment.”

Relegation Battle Intensifies

Oscar Sielva scored the only goal of the match as Huesca secured a narrow victory. Both clubs remain in the relegation zone with five fixtures left in the season.

Huesca manager Jose Luis described the scenes as “a complete loss of control”, while Zaragoza coach David Navarro also apologised after the game, stating: “There are lines we can't cross.”
