Nico Paz Shines as Como Stun Manchester United in Major Champions League Upset

Como produced a stunning Champions League upset, defeating Manchester United 4–1 in a performance that exposed the English side’s defensive weaknesses in high-pressure moments. Argentine midfielder Nico Paz was the star of the evening, as he scored twice to give his side a memorable victory at the iconic Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia.

The hosts made an immediate impact, taking the lead in the second minute when Paz found space outside the penalty area and curled a superb shot into the corner. The early goal energized the home crowd and forced Manchester United to chase the game from the opening stages. United had an opportunity to respond through Diogo Dalot, but the defender failed to convert his chance as Como maintained their attacking momentum.

Como demonstrated impressive organization and confidence throughout the first half, pressing aggressively and exploiting spaces in United’s defence. The visitors struggled to establish control in midfield and found it difficult to contain the hosts’ movement in the final third. Although Como entered the break with a narrow lead, their performance suggested that United faced a difficult challenge after the restart.

The match turned decisively in Como’s favor shortly after half-time. In the 49th minute, Paz delivered an incisive through ball that split United’s defence and allowed Anastasios Douvikas to break through and finish past goalkeeper Senne Lammens. The goal doubled Como’s advantage and increased the pressure on the visitors.

Just eight minutes later, Paz struck again to make it 3–0. The Argentine midfielder capitalized on a defensive mistake before advancing towards goal and finishing confidently. His second goal capped an outstanding individual display and left Manchester United facing the prospect of a humiliating defeat.

Como continued to attack with determination and added a fourth goal in the 76th minute. Substitute Kaiki Bruno delivered a cross from the left, allowing defender Jacobo Ramón to rise above the defence and head the ball into the net. The goal completed a remarkable performance by the Italian side, whose attacking efficiency repeatedly punished United’s mistakes.

Manchester United eventually managed to score a consolation goal in stoppage time. Joshua Zirkzee converted a cross from Amad Diallo to reduce the deficit to 4–1, but the late strike did little to change the outcome of a contest that Como had controlled for much of the evening.

The defeat raised fresh questions about Manchester United’s defensive organization, and ability to respond under pressure. The English club struggled to contain Como’s attacking movement and repeatedly allowed the hosts to exploit dangerous spaces. While injuries and player absences provided some context for United’s difficulties, the scale of the result represented a significant setback for the team that is already under fire.
