Chennai Super Kings defeated Mumbai Indians in the latest IPL encounter, as Sanju Samson remained the most notable player of the match. He struck a stunning century in the first innings to give CSK a commanding total on the board, which eventually proved too big to chase for Mumbai Indians.
Batting first, Chennai Super Kings started strongly, as the top order fired quick runs. The star Indian batter looked in good touch, as he took charge from the first over to keep Mumbai Indians under pressure.
Even after losing Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sanju kept playing positively to take the scoreboard forward. After the powerlay, Mumbai Indians got back in the match by taking quick wickets, however, Sanju Samson remained firm at one end.
He made sure to take the game deep, as other CSK batters kept losing their wickets. The lower middle order then offered some resistance and played little cameos, giving Sanju Samson some room to play his natural game. As a result, he struck a stunning century off just 54 balls to stun Mumbai, giving CSK a strong push to post 207 at the end of the first innings.
When Mumbai Indians came out to bat, they gave a disappointing performance with the bat. The top order went back to the pavilion quickly, as Mukesh Choudhary and Akeal Hosein picked back-to-back wickets to give CSK a huge edge in the match.
The middle order then showcased some resistance, however, it also proved futile as Akeal Hosein again struck twice to dent the chase of Mumbai Indians.
The lower order then surrendered completely, making the match a clear one-sided contest. As a result, Mumbai Indians were bowled out for just 104, giving CSK a big victory by 103 runs. By winning the match, the visitors also secured 5th position on the IPL 2026 points table, with three wins in seven matches.
