Chennai Super Kings registered their first win in the IPL 2026 season by defeating Delhi Capitals in the recent match. Sanju Samson led the way in the first innings with a superlative century before Jamie Overton delivered a fine bowling performance to seal the victory.
Batting first, Chennai Super Kings started strongly by dominating the Powerplay. Sanju Samson was their star batter, as he kept the scoring rate high from the beginning. Even after losing Ruturaj Gaikwad, he kept on playing his natural game to keep CSK ahead in the game.
His partnership with Ayush Mhatre was important, as the duo played confidently during the middle overs to keep pressure on the Delhi attack. Sanju then scored a stunning century that helped him overcome his previous struggles in the tournament. He scored 115 off just 56 balls, hitting 15 fours and 4 sixes.
Due to his fabulous knock, Chennai Super Kings posted a big total of 212 for the loss of two wickets in the first innings. From the bowling point of view, only Axar Patel managed to pick up a wicket after conceding 39 runs.
The reply of Delhi Capitals in the second innings was strong, but they lost the plot during the middle overs due to regular wickets. Pathum Nissanka played a strong knock up the order, but after him, no middle order batter delivered any positive impact.
Tristan Stubbs then played a fine innings to make the chase interesting. He scored 60 off 38 balls to give Delhi Capitals some hope of winning the game. Unfortunately, he lost his wicket in the final overs due to a strong bowling display by CSK. As a result, Chennai bowled out DC on 189 and secured their first victory in the IPL 2026 by 23 runs.
