Canada Hammer Qatar 6-0 With David’s Hat-Trick Leading The Way
Jonathan David’s hat-trick powered Canada to their first-ever FIFA World Cup win, as Jesse Marsch’s team produced a 6-0 victory over Qatar.
Canada controlled the game from the start, putting heavy pressure on Julen Lopetegui’s team with fast and intense play in the first half.
David was involved in most of Canada’s attacking moves, and his powerful volley was saved only into the path of Cyle Larin, who reacted quickly to score the opening goal after 15 minutes.
After the hydration break, Canada doubled their lead to put more misery on Qatar. Their star striker David smashed in a volley from 18 yards to make it 2-0 for Canada.
Around the 30-minute mark, Canada were awarded a penalty after Tajon Buchanan was fouled by Homad Al Amin. But after a review, the foul was found to be outside the box, so the decision was changed to a red card for denying a clear goal-scoring chance.
Just before half-time, David grabbed his second goal, making Canada’s strong control of the game even more one-sided.
After being completely outplayed in the first half, Qatar’s discipline fell apart after the restart. They were reduced to nine men after Assim Madibo left Ismael Kone in clear pain, with Madibo sent off and Kone taken off on a stretcher with a suspected broken leg.
Even with that worrying moment, Canada still added to their lead. Kone’s replacement, Nathan Saliba, curled in a fine free kick from 22 yards to make it 4-0.
The gap between the two teams was clear, and a fifth goal soon followed when Mohammad Al Mannai’s attempted clearance from a Jacob Shaffelburg shot ended up going into his own net.
With the injury to Kone still affecting the mood, David finished the game on a high for Canada, scoring his third goal in stoppage time. This gave the home side a dominant win over Qatar, who looked quite confused and ill-disciplined from the start.
