Canada Reveal Final 26-Man Squad For Home FIFA World Cup 2026

Head coach Jesse Marsch has picked Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies in what he called Canada’s strongest ever 26-man squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026.

The 25-year-old Davies has been included even though he is still recovering from a hamstring injury. Besides him, Juventus forward Jonathan David is also part of Marsch's World Cup squad.

Speaking about the squad, he said this team has the potential to go a long way in the tournament, as plenty of notable names are included in the team.

"We have really our best group of 26 players that this country has ever assembled at any one time. Are all of them right now at full 100%? No, but they're close.” said Canada head coach Jesse Marsch.

Davies is now working against time to be ready for Canada’s first match against Bosnia and Herzegovina on 12 June. He picked up the injury during Bayern Munich’s Champions League semi-final loss to Paris Saint-Germain.

Before that, he had already dealt with a run of muscle problems after coming back from an eight-month spell out with an ACL tear he suffered in October.

Addressing the question of playing XI, Jesse Marsch said that the management has an idea about the core performers, so they only had to finalize the lineup after checking the fitness of each player.

"We've had a pretty good idea of who our core group is for a while. The real X factor in all these decisions was to determine which players are going to be healthy, and who could we project to be really close to 100% and in the best form of their life," said Canada head coach Jesse Marsch.
