Bruno Fernandes Awarded Premier League Player of the Season After Historic Campaign

Bruno Fernandes has been named Premier League Player of the Season after playing a central role in Manchester United’s third-place finish and qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League.

The United captain delivered one of the strongest campaigns of his Premier League career, combining creativity with consistent end product across the season. Fernandes scored eight league goals and registered 20 assists, matching the competition’s single-season assist record previously achieved by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne. He could still move clear of that mark with one fixture remaining against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Key Role in United’s Top-Four Finish

Under manager Michael Carrick, Fernandes became the focal point of United’s attacking play throughout the campaign. His influence extended beyond goals and assists, with the midfielder regularly contributing in decisive moments during the club’s push for a return to Europe’s top competition.

The Portugal international also led the league in several chance-creation metrics and remained one of United’s most consistent performers across the season. His leadership as captain was viewed as a significant factor in the club securing a top-three finish.

Individual Honours Continue for Fernandes

The latest recognition adds to a growing list of awards collected by Fernandes during the 2025/26 season. The 31-year-old has already won the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award, the Players’ Player of the Year prize and the Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year honour.

Fernandes is now expected to be among the leading contenders for the upcoming Professional Footballers’ Association award.

Joins Elite Manchester United List

The Bruno Fernandes award announcement places the midfielder among a select group of Manchester United players to receive the league’s top individual honour since its introduction in the 1994/95 season.

He becomes the seventh United player to win the award, joining former winners including Peter Schmeichel, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Cristiano Ronaldo, Nemanja Vidic and Wayne Rooney.

Fernandes finished ahead of several shortlisted players, including Declan Rice, Gabriel Magalhães, David Raya and Erling Haaland
