"A Real Shame" – Harry Brook Backs Pakistan Stars Amid Growing Fears of Hundred Auction Snub

"A Real Shame" – Harry Brook Backs Pakistan Stars Amid Growing Fears of Hundred Auction Snub

England captain Harry Brook has addressed growing debate surrounding Pakistan players and their prospects in The Hundred, calling it “a shame” if the competition were to miss out on their presence.

Speculation has intensified ahead of the March 11–12 auctions in London, with reports suggesting that franchises linked to Indian Premier League ownership could refrain from selecting Pakistan cricketers. While no official directive has been issued, industry chatter has pointed to a possible reluctance among certain teams.

Brook, however, sought to distance the England camp from the off-field narrative, insisting their immediate attention remains on the ICC event underway. “Our main focus now is what’s coming up in the T20 World Cup. It’s not really any of our business, to be honest,” he said.

Still, the England skipper acknowledged Pakistan’s stature in world cricket and the value their players bring to global tournaments. “Pakistan have been a great cricket nation for many years. I think there’s about 50, 60 players in the auction, and it would be a shame to not see some of them in there,” he remarked.

Brook further emphasized that Pakistan cricketers contribute more than just skill, highlighting their impact on fan engagement and atmosphere. “There’s some amazing cricketers and they bring some great crowds as well. It would be a shame to not see some of the Pakistan players in there and make the tournament and competition even better,” he added.

The reports come despite previous assurances from Richard Gould, chief executive of the England and Wales Cricket Board, who had stated that Pakistani players would not face restrictions in England’s 100-ball competition.

Pakistan cricketers have not featured in the IPL since 2008 and have had limited involvement in other IPL-influenced leagues in recent years, further fueling the discussion around franchise dynamics.

As auction dates approach, clarity is awaited. For now, Brook’s comments reflect a broader sentiment that elite tournaments thrive when the best global talent, including Pakistan players, is fully represented.
