Brazil Break Japanese Hearts with Stunning Late Winner in Knockout Clash

Brazil Break Japanese Hearts with Stunning Late Winner in Knockout Clash

Brazil scored just before the stoppage time to beat Japan 2-1 in the latest World Cup clash. Japan fought hard for most of the game but could not hold on in the closing moments.

Despite both sides being known for their attacking football, clear chances were limited for much of the first half. Japan finally broke the deadlock in the 29th minute when Kaishu Sano picked up a loose ball near the halfway line, raced past Casemiro, and fired a low long-range shot into the bottom corner, leaving Alisson Becker with no chance.

Brazil had failed to win any of their previous five World Cup matches after conceding first, and going behind once again left them struggling before half-time. However, things changed quickly after the break. Just 30 seconds into the second half, substitute Endrick added fresh energy to the attack, forcing Zion Suzuki into an early save.

Japan continued to defend well, but Brazil kept pushing for an equalizer. Suzuki produced another excellent save to deny Bruno Guimarães, and then he combined with Takehiro Tomiyasu to keep Casemiro's diving header from crossing the line.

Brazil finally got the goal they deserved just before the hour mark. Casemiro met Gabriel Magalhães' cross with a powerful header at the far post to make it 1-1.

With the momentum on their side, Brazil came close to taking the lead when Vinícius Júnior made a brilliant solo run, but Suzuki tipped his effort into the woodwork. At the other end, Alisson Becker reacted well to keep out Atsuki Ueda's shot from outside the box, although Japan looked much less dangerous in attack than they had earlier.

Brazil kept up the pressure in the closing stages, and their persistence paid off with just a minute left. Bruno Guimarães picked out Gabriel Martinelli at the far post, and his curling shot went in after hitting the post, breaking Japan's hearts with a late winner.

The victory means Japan are still waiting for their first competitive win over Brazil and have yet to win a World Cup knockout match. Brazil also extended their strong record against the Samurai Blue, remaining unbeaten in 14 of their last 15 meetings, and stayed on track for a possible clash with Argentina later in the tournament.
