The governing council explained that removing Chattogram was a logistical decision shaped by both broadcast movement and World Cup readiness.

Sylhet will continue hosting fixtures until January 12, and after that, the tournament moves to Dhaka for three more match days, followed by the playoffs and the January 23 final.

BPL member secretary Iftekhar Rahman said the decision had come after careful consideration.

"There was no gap in our fixtures," Iftekhar said. "Moving from Sylhet to Chattogram, especially with the broadcast equipment needing to be shifted between the two cities, will need at least two days. Given that we had to postpone the matches on Monday and Tuesday, we couldn't move to Chattogram.

He added that the timing of the BPL final could not be adjusted because of the Bangladesh national team schedule.

"I know it is disappointing for Chattogram, but if we started the tournament in Chattogram, Sylhet would have missed out. Our other major concern was the BPL final date. We couldn't shift even one day as the Bangladesh team needs time to prepare for the T20 World Cup. So we had to take these factors into consideration."

World Cup Preparation Plays A Major Role

With the T20 World Cup approaching immediately after the BPL 2025/26, organizers stressed that player readiness could not be compromised. Maintaining the final date became non-negotiable, leaving venue reshuffling as the only workable solution.

The two postponed days disrupted equipment logistics, and shifting everything to Chattogram would have caused further cascading delays. Keeping matches centralized in Sylhet and Dhaka allows the event to finish on time and reduces operational risk.

Before the first ball was even bowled, Chattogram Royals lost their franchise owner. Soon after, Noakhali Express coach Khaled Mahmud walked out over inadequate practice arrangements.

The Dhaka Capitals had lost deeply a few months back in the season. The assistant coach, Mahbub Ali Zaki, died before the team was to play against the Rajshahi Warriors.

There is a compressed and limited schedule the teams are contending fiercely to secure the playoffs.
