Arsenal’s Premier League Title Charge Hit by Surprising Defeat to Bournemouth

Arsenal’s Premier League Title Charge Hit by Surprising Defeat to Bournemouth

Arsenal went down 2-1 to Bournemouth in a result that came as a big surprise in the Premier League. Although they looked more dominant with the ball possession, but Bournemouth took advantage of their chances to pull off a big upset at the Emirates Stadium.

Bournemouth started strongly and took the lead early, with Eli Junior Kroupi scoring in the 17th minute. They later strengthened their position when Alex Scott added a second goal in the 74th minute.

Arsenal did manage to get one back, as Viktor Gyökeres scored from the penalty spot in the 35th minute. However, despite having more possession for most of the game, they couldn’t find the equalizer.

On paper, Arsenal looked more dominant with 52 percent ball possession, whereas they also took 12 shots, while Bournemouth struck just 8. But visitors made better use of their chances, leaving hosts with no answers in the end. Arsenal also won 10 corners and completed more passes, yet Bournemouth stayed solid at the back and made their moments count.

This was a big win away from home for Bournemouth, while Arsenal will look back at the chances they missed in a game where having more of the ball didn’t help them get the result.

Speaking after the match, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta admitted that his team were outclassed by Bournemouth who looked more organized in the encounter. He now looks forward to making a strong comeback in the upcoming games by rectifying key mistakes.

“We were very far from the standards that we’ve shown all season, so it’s a big punch in the face because we wanted to win this game so badly. We didn’t cope with the situations when they didn’t go our way.” said Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta.
