Barcelona Open Champions League Campaign With Dominant Victory Over Feyenoord
Barcelona made a resounding start to their Champions League campaign after securing a commanding 5-1 victory over Feyenoord. The Spanish giants remained dominant from the start, showcasing why they are considered the top contenders to lift the Champions League 2026-27 title.
Barcelona wasted little time making their presence felt as Raphinha opened the scoring in the third minute. The early goal gave the hosts confidence and immediately put Feyenoord under pressure. Barcelona continued to dominate possession and looked dangerous whenever they moved forward, forcing the visitors to spend long periods defending.
Feyenoord struggled to contain Barcelona's attacking players, and the home side soon doubled their advantage. Karim Adeyemi found the net in the 22nd minute to put Barcelona 2-0 ahead. With two goals inside the opening half, Barcelona were firmly in control and looked comfortable against their Dutch opponents.
The hosts continued to create opportunities as the first half progressed, while Feyenoord found it difficult to build any sustained attacking momentum. Barcelona's movement in the final third repeatedly caused problems, and the Spanish side went into the break with a two-goal cushion.
Barcelona remained on the front foot after the restart and continued to search for more goals. Their persistence eventually paid off again when Raphinha struck for the second time in the 57th minute. The Brazilian's second goal of the night extended Barcelona's lead to 3-0 and left Feyenoord facing an increasingly difficult task.
However, the Dutch side refused to give up and managed to find a response in the 82nd minute. Sem Steijn pulled one goal back for the visitors, giving them a brief glimpse of hope. However, Barcelona quickly restored their dominance and showed no signs of allowing Feyenoord back into the contest.
Gabriel Jesus then completed the scoring in the 85th minute, sealing a convincing 5-1 win for Barcelona. The result gives the Catalan giants an ideal beginning to their Champions League campaign. Their attacking performance will provide plenty of encouragement, particularly after scoring five goals against Feyenoord and controlling the match for long stretches.
For Feyenoord, the heavy defeat was a difficult way to begin their European campaign. They will now have to regroup and improve defensively ahead of their next Champions League fixture.
