Bangladesh Squad for Women T20 World Cup 2026: Nigar Sultana to Lead

MIRPUR: The Bangladesh Cricket Board has announced the Bangladesh Squad for Women T20 World Cup 2026, with Nigar Sultana set to captain the side in the tournament to be held in England and Wales from June 12 to July 5.

Sultana will lead Bangladesh at the global event for the third consecutive time, continuing in the role after previous editions. The squad features a mix of experienced players and emerging names as the team prepares for conditions in England.

Selection Changes and Strategy

One of the key changes in the Bangladesh Squad for Women T20 World Cup is the inclusion of Taj Nehar, who returns to the T20 setup. She replaces Sarmin Sultana, who remains in consideration for the one-day format.

Nehar, a top-order batter, has had limited opportunities at the international level so far. Despite modest returns, the selectors have backed her flexibility in the batting order.

“We were thinking of Sarmin Sultana for the one-day format. Taj Nehar is a versatile cricketer who can bat between No. 1 to No. 6 in the batting line-up,” chief selector Sajjad Ahmed said.

“The selectors believe that Nehar can solve the problem of scoring quick runs in the last five overs,” he added.

Group Fixtures and Tournament Path

Bangladesh have been placed in Group 1 for the ICC Women's event. Their campaign will begin against the Netherlands women's cricket team on June 14, followed by a match against Australia women's cricket team on June 17.

They will then face Pakistan women's cricket team on June 20 before concluding the group stage against India women's cricket team on June 25.
