Bangladesh Players Consider Boycott Over Controversial Remarks by BCB Director

Bangladesh Players Consider Boycott Over Controversial Remarks by BCB Director

Bangladesh cricket has found itself in a new controversy, as players have threatened to boycott all formats of the game unless BCB director M Nazmul Islam issues his apology and resignation over controversial remarks. This is a significant development that could impact the BPL 2026 season that is currently being played in Bangladesh featuring top stars.

The latest controversy erupted when M Nazmul Islam called former Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal an Indian agent.

“This time, the people of Bangladesh witnessed, with their own eyes, the emergence of yet another proven Indian agent,” said M Nazmul Islam in his social media post.

The boycott threat was issued by Mohammad Mithun, who is the president of the cricketers’ association in Bangladesh. He said all the fixtures of BPL happening tomorrow will be suspended if the BCB director does not tender his resignation immediately.

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has also distanced itself from the controversial remarks made by M Nazmul Islam. The board issued a statement clarifying that the remarks do not represent the official views of the BCB.

“The Board expresses its sincere regret for remarks that may be deemed inappropriate, offensive, or hurtful. Such comments do not reflect the values, principles, or official position of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, nor do they align with the standards of conduct expected from individuals entrusted with the responsibility of serving Bangladesh cricket,” said BCB official statement.

The statement also noted that the remarks do not reflect the board’s views, as the BCB cannot endorse statements issued through unofficial channels.

“The BCB reiterates that it does not endorse or take responsibility for any statement or remark made by any director or Board member unless issued formally through the Board’s designated spokesperson or the Media & Communications Department.” said the BCB official statement.

“Any statements made outside these authorized channels are personal in nature and should not be interpreted as representing the views or policies of the Board,” added BCB official statement.
