Bangladesh Optimistic About Hridoy’s Recovery Before New Zealand Series

Bangladesh Optimistic About Hridoy’s Recovery Before New Zealand Series

The medical panel of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is confident that ace batter Towhid Hridoy will recover from injury soon. They are optimistic for his availability in the upcoming New Zealand white-ball series that is scheduled to start from April 17.

Towhid Hridoy, who played for Bangladesh in last month’s home ODI series against Pakistan, has been dealing with an elbow injury since the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) ended on March 3.

According to the BCB’s medical team, Hridoy tried to manage the injury and continued playing, but it got worse during the Pakistan vs Bangladesh series, causing so much pain that he was unable to hold the bat at one stage.

"Hridoy is struggling with tennis elbow injury. Usually, this kind of issue happens with a batter's top hand. This usually comes from repetitive movement," said a member of the BCB medical unit.

"This tennis elbow issue was there slightly from the last BCL, but we managed it and he kept on playing. Then in the last Pakistan series, I think a yorker ball hit the bottom of the bat and that caused his elbow to tremble with pain and it started to increase. When it got worse, it became painful for him even to hold the bat." added the statement.

He further said that Hridoy is currently undergoing “advanced treatment”, so the management is confident that he will be available in the upcoming Bangladesh vs New Zealand series.

"The rule here is that whatever repetitive movement is causing the pain, that has to be stopped. We have stopped that and are continuing everything else. We are doing all kinds of advanced treatment so that we can have him ready for the New Zealand series and we are confident he will be available for the series.” said a member of the BCB medical unit.

"However, becoming 100% pain-free is very difficult. It usually takes around a year to heal. We have already counselled him that some level of pain will remain and he will have to carry it. If we wait for a completely pain-free condition then playing cricket will not be possible within a year." added the statement.

It should be noted that the Tigers are gearing up to play with their full-strength side in the upcoming Bangladesh vs New Zealand white-ball series. The tour will commence with the start of the ODI series on April 17, after which the T20I leg will be played from April 27 to May 2.
