COLOMBO: Bangladesh won by seven wickets against Pakistan in the third match of the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 on Thursday at the R Premadasa Stadium, thanks to a team bowling performance and Rubya Haider's undefeated half-century.
Set to chase a modest 130-run target, Bangladesh easily scored the winning runs with just three wickets and 113 balls to spare.
They were led by left-handed opening Rubya Haider, who scored an undefeated 54 off 77 deliveries, including eight fours. She was helped by skipper Nigar Sultana, who scored 23 runs off 44 deliveries, including five fours. The pair also formed a match-defining 62-run collaboration for the third wicket.
Besides them, middle-order hitter Sobhana Mostary was the other notable batter, hitting 24 off 19 deliveries, including six fours.
For Pakistan, Rameen Shamim, Diana Baig, and skipper Fatima Sana have taken one wicket each.
Pakistan skipper Fatima Sana's choice to bat first backfired, as the team's batting unit managed 129 runs before being bowled out in 38.3 overs.
The Green Shirts' innings got off to a dismal start when Marufa Akter bowled top-order hitters Omaima Sohail and Sidra Amin for ducks in the opening over, leaving only two runs on the board.
Following the early debacle, opener Muneeba Ali and Rameen Shamim briefly anchored the innings with a cautious 42-run partnership before both perished in quick succession, resulting in Pakistan slipping to 47/4 in 13.4 overs.
Rameen remained the top-scorer for Pakistan with 23 off 39 deliveries with the help of two fours, while Muneeba made 17 from 35, hitting as many boundaries.
All-rounder Aliya Riaz (13), wicketkeeper batter Sidra Nawaz (15), and skipper Fatima (22) then made modest contributions to take Pakistan to 100/7 in 29.3 overs before an unbeaten 16-run cameo by No.9 batter Diana Baig took them to 129 all out.
Shorna Akter was Bangladesh's best bowler, taking three wickets for only five runs in 3.3 overs, next to Marufa and Nahida Akter with two each, and Rabeya Khan, Fahima Khatun, and Nishita Akter Nishi grabbed a wicket each.
