Bangladesh defeated West Indies comprehensively in the 1st ODI at Mirpur. It was a game dominated by bowlers, as Rishad Hossain starred for Bangladesh by taking 6 wickets. He strangled the WI batting lineup by bowling smartly during the middle overs. It was due to his exceptional performance, Bangladesh won the match by 74 runs, as WI only managed to score 133 in the second innings.

When Bangladesh came out to bat first, their start in the Powerplay was very poor. They lost both openers inside the 10 overs, as Romario Shepherd and Jayden Seales made the ball talk. Their dismissal brought Najmul Hossain Shanto to the crease, who played cautiously to hold the wickets. He played a steady hand alongside Towhid Hridoy to build a base for the Bangladesh batting.

The duo were going nicely until Khary Pierre removed Shanto with an exceptional delivery. He produced a breakthrough that gave WI a ray of hope, however, Towhid Hridoy kept on playing smartly.

He made a gritty fifty that allowed Bangladesh to go past 200 on the scoreboard. The young middle-order batter made sure to hold one end, as the other incoming batters kept losing their wickets at regular intervals.

It was definitely a tough pitch to bat on, as all the spin bowlers were getting a lot of turn. Due to this, the batters were struggling to play their shots, and strike rotation also became a bit difficult. The captain of the Bangladesh team, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, also couldn’t perform well with the bat. He got out cheaply to Roston Chase after scoring just 17 runs.

Due to the continuous pressure exerted by West Indies, Bangladesh couldn’t go big at the end of the innings. They were bowled out for just 207 runs, courtesy of some tight bowling by the West Indies team.

When the second innings started, and West Indies came out to bat, they started off well by building a partnership. Both openers, Brandon King and Alick Athanaze, were looking in good touch as they negated the Bangladesh attack swiftly in the Powerplay.

However, the dismissal of Alick Athanaze in the 12th over triggered the collapse of the West Indies batting lineup. Guided by Rishad Hossain, West Indies started to lose wickets one after another. The brilliant bowling spell of the young rising Bangladesh spinner turned the match in favor of Bangladesh. He showcased a strong performance with the ball that folded the West Indies batting innings for just 133 runs. By triggering this stunning collapse, Bangladesh won the match by 74 runs and took a lead in the three-match series.
