Nahid Rana and Tanzid’s Blitz Power Tigers to Dominant Win in Pak vs Bang 1st ODI

Nahid Rana and Tanzid’s Blitz Power Tigers to Dominant Win in Pak vs Bang 1st ODI

Bangladesh dismantled Pakistan by eight wickets in the opening ODI at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

The story of the day belonged to young speedster Nahid Rana, whose career-best figures of 5/24 tore the heart out of a formidable Pakistani batting lineup.

Winning the toss and electing to bowl first appeared to be a strategic decision for Bangladesh. Pakistan's batters struggled to find their timing, frequently undone by the lack of pace on the ball from the other end and the sheer hostility from Rana.

By the time the 20-over mark was reached, Pakistan was seven down with less than 80 on the board. Only Faheem Ashraf showed any semblance of resistance, grafting a gritty 37 off 47 balls to push the total past the hundred-mark.

The Tanzid Blitz

Chasing a modest 115 for victory, Bangladesh showed no signs of caution. Openers Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Saif Hassan came out with clear intent.

Tanzid was particularly ruthless against the new ball. Even Pakistan’s premier pacer, Shaheen Afridi, found it difficult to contain the young left-hander. Tanzid’s unbeaten 67 off 42 balls was punctuated by seven boundaries and five sixes, effectively killing the contest within the first powerplay.

Though Shaheen managed to remove Saif Hassan in quick succession to provide a flicker of hope, the damage was already done. Tanzid remained composed, finishing the game in just 15.1 overs.

Looking Ahead

Pakistan’s captain expressed disappointment at the post-match presentation, citing a "lack of application" on a pitch that was better than the scoreline suggested. For the hosts, the victory is a massive statement of intent, proving that their pace battery is now as lethal as their traditional spin strength.

The two teams will meet again at the same venue on March 13 for the second ODI. Pakistan must find a way to counter Rana’s pace if they are to keep the series alive, while Bangladesh will look to wrap up the series with a game to spare.
