Rashid’s Four-Wicket Haul Wreckage Leaves Bangladesh Bowled Out for 160 in UAE ODI Tri-Series

Rashid’s Four-Wicket Haul Wreckage Leaves Bangladesh Bowled Out for 160 in UAE ODI Tri-Series

SHARJAH: In a high-stakes encounter at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Bangladesh collapsed to a meager 160 all out against Afghanistan in the third match of the 2026 UAE ODI Tri-Series.

Electing to bat first after winning the toss on a dry surface, Bangladesh's batting order crumbled under relentless pressure from a highly disciplined Afghan bowling unit, leaving their tournament survival hanging by a thread.

The narrative of the first innings was completely dominated by Rashid Khan's 4-wicket haul, as the world-class leg-spinner turned the game firmly in Afghanistan's favor during the crucial middle overs. Rashid finished with exceptional, highly economical figures of 4 for 31 in his 8.2 overs, ripping through the middle and lower order with his trademark quick googlies and subtle variations that left the opposition batsmen completely clueless.

Bangladesh's innings started with extreme caution but quickly derailed despite a fighting, lonely half-century from opening batsman Parvez Hossain Emon. Emon played a resilient knock of 70 runs off 96 deliveries, smashing five boundaries and two maximums to anchor one end of the crease. He found temporary support in Saif Hassan, who ground out a patient 41 off 82 balls. The duo attempted to build a stable foundation with a sluggish partnership, but they failed to accelerate against a choking Afghan field placement and highly restrictive bowling line-up.

Once the breakthrough was made by the Afghan seamers, the floodgates opened for the spin maestros to clean up the tail. Afghanistan’s pace battery provided excellent initial support, with Yamin Ahmadzai picking up 2 for 21 in his six overs and talented all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai claiming important wickets to finish with 2 for 27 in seven overs. The mounting dot-ball pressure eventually forced a catastrophic lower-order collapse, resulting in Bangladesh bowled out in just 41.2 overs.

No other Bangladeshi batsman managed to cross double digits, exposing severe vulnerabilities in their technical approach against quality spin under hot conditions.

This crucial BAN vs AFG fixture carries immense tournament implications for both nations moving forward. This is a strict must-win game for Bangladesh if they wish to book a spot in the upcoming tri-series final alongside a strong Zimbabwe side.

However, a mere victory will not suffice today; due to net run rate equations, Bangladesh must defeat Afghanistan by at least 41 runs to keep their qualification hopes alive. As the players head into the innings break, Afghanistan holds a massive psychological advantage, needing just 161 runs at a modest required run rate, while Bangladesh faces a monumental bowling task to salvage their campaign.
