Babar Azam Levels Imran Khan's Long-Standing International Record With Win Over West Indies

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam reached another milestone after leading his side to victory over the West Indies in the second Test at Port of Spain. The win helped him draw level with former captain Imran Khan for the most Player of the Series awards won by a Pakistan player in international cricket.

The right-handed batter was brought back as Pakistan's Test captain ahead of the two-match series in the West Indies, taking over the role from Shan Masood. Babar made an immediate impact, finishing as the top run-getter in the series with 193 runs from four innings.

The Pakistan captain did not get a big score in the opening innings of the series, as he struck just 23 runs. However, he bounced back with a fighting half-century in the second innings, although Pakistan fell short in their run chase.

Babar carried that form into the second Test, scoring a steady 88 in the first innings. His knock helped Pakistan take a valuable 43-run lead over the hosts.

Babar again played brilliantly in the second innings with an unbeaten 24 from 30 balls, as Pakistan comfortably chased down the target of 75 runs for the loss of only two wickets. His consistent performances earned him the Player of the Series award, which he shared with the West Indies all-rounder Justin Greaves.

After sharing the honor with Greaves, Babar’s total across all international formats increased to 10. His previous nine awards came from white-ball cricket, including five in T20Is and four in ODIs.

The latest award also saw the 31-year-old join Pakistan legends Imran Khan and Wasim Akram at the top of the country's all-time list for the most Player of the Series awards in international cricket. The achievement is another reminder of Babar's consistency, as he has continued to add new milestones to his career over the past few years.
