Babar Azam Highlights Poor Partnerships as Bangladesh Seize Control in Sylhet

Babar Azam Highlights Poor Partnerships as Bangladesh Seize Control in Sylhet

SYLHET: Pakistan batter Babar Azam has said “Babar highlights Pakistan's batting” issues after his side were put under pressure on day two of the final Test against Bangladesh at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

Pakistan were dismissed for 232 in their first innings, giving Bangladesh a 46-run lead. The hosts ended the second day at 110-3, extending their overall advantage to 156 runs. Earlier, Bangladesh posted 278, recovering from a difficult position through a key innings from Litton Das.

Babar Azam said Pakistan’s failure to build partnerships cost them momentum despite favourable batting conditions.

“The pitch was very good and the ball was coming onto the bat nicely, but we failed to build a partnership. Salman Ali Agha and I tried to build one; the start was good but unfortunately we could not carry it forward,” Babar said.

He also said “Babar on Pakistan test performance” comes down to inconsistency in converting starts into big partnerships.

“The turning point of the innings was my wicket and Salman Ali Agha’s wicket. After those two dismissals, the momentum of the game completely shifted,” he stated.

Pakistan’s Batting Concerns Continue

Babar reiterated that the main issue remains the lack of partnerships, adding that Pakistan struggle to recover after losing quick wickets.

“The batting unit has to take responsibility and form partnerships. After one wicket falls, two or three more follow, and we struggle to recover. We are working on this, discussing it among ourselves and with the coaches to remove any issues,” he said.

He dismissed concerns about mental pressure, saying the team remains focused on improvement through continuous cricket and preparation.

“We are playing continuous cricket and there are no mental blocks. Our mindset is always to perform well in every series, match, and World Cup. Everyone wants to stay positive, reduce mistakes, adapt to different conditions, and improve. A long three-month camp for white-ball and red-ball cricket will be beneficial for us,” he concluded.

Match Situation

Pakistan were led by Babar Azam’s 68 off 84 balls, while Sajid Khan added a quick 38 lower down the order. Bangladesh, however, remains firmly in control with a significant lead heading into the final stages of the Test.
