Azan Awais Joins Elite List with Century on Test Debut vs Bangladesh

MIRPUR: Pakistan opener Azan Awais joins elite list with a century on Test debut during the opening match of the series against Bangladesh national cricket team at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

Resuming the third day unbeaten, the 21-year-old converted his overnight score into three figures early in the session. He reached the milestone with a controlled single off pacer Nahid Rana, becoming the latest addition to Pakistan’s list of debut centurions in the longest format.

Entry into Elite List

With this innings, Azan Awais joined a select group of Pakistan batters who have registered a hundred in their first Test appearance. The list includes notable names such as Javed Miandad, Younis Khan and Fawad Alam, all of whom went on to play key roles for the national side.

He also became one of the few Pakistan players to achieve the milestone away from home, underlining the significance of the effort in unfamiliar conditions. Only a handful of players had previously managed a debut hundred in overseas Tests.

Innings and Dismissal

Azan’s innings combined patience with controlled strokeplay. He occupied the crease for a significant period and found the boundary regularly without taking undue risks. His knock came to an end on 103 when he was dismissed by experienced seamer Taskin Ahmed shortly after reaching the landmark.

The innings provided Pakistan with a steady platform in challenging conditions and highlighted the potential of the young opener at the international level.
