Zimbabwe are set to host Australia for a three-match ODI series in September, marking the visitors’ first 50-over tour to the country in over a decade. The two sides last played an ODI in Zimbabwe back in 2014 during a triangular series that also featured South Africa. This time, all matches will be held at the Harare Sports Club, bringing top-level cricket back to local fans.
The series is not just another fixture for Zimbabwe. With the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 on the horizon, which they will co-host with South Africa and Namibia, these games carry real importance. Facing a side like Australia gives them a chance to test their squad under pressure and fine-tune combinations. Few saw this packed schedule coming, especially with a T20I series against India also lined up earlier in July.
Zimbabwe Cricket Managing Director Givemore Makoni said the board is pleased to welcome Australia, calling it a valuable opportunity for both players and fans. He believes matches of this level are key for the team’s growth. And honestly, he has a point. Games like these bring intensity, challenge decision-making, and often reveal where a team truly stands.
