Alyssa Healy powered Australia to a dominating win over Bangladesh at Visakhapatnam. She once again showcased her class by taking the responsibility to score runs for Australia at the top order. Due to her unbeaten partnership with Phoebe Litchfield, Australia completed a commanding win over Bangladesh without losing a single wicket. This is a statement victory that has given a message to other teams that Australia is fully confident to defend their title in this year’s ICC Women’s World Cup.
Batting first, Bangladesh didn’t have a great start, as they lost Fargana Hoque very quickly in the Powerplay. She was removed for just 8 runs after struggling a lot in the middle. The other opener, Rubya Haider, tried to steady the innings by playing cautiously. She made a well-fought 44 runs before getting out to Gardner in the 18th over.
Once she got out, the Bangladesh middle order crumbled without making any real contributions to the scoreboard. The captain of the tigers, Nigar Sultana, couldn’t do much in today’s match, as she was removed by Alana King in the 27th over after making just 12 runs.
Sobhana Mostary, however, played a solid knock in the middle when the wickets were falling at regular intervals. She steadied the innings from one end, but other batters didn’t give her much support. Her innings of 66 runs off 80 balls remained the only shining light of Bangladesh's batting when other batters struggled badly.
Due to consistent pressure, Bangladesh managed to score only 198 at the end of the 1st innings. It was a subpar score at Visakhapatnam that usually assists batters in both innings of the game.
When Australia came out to bat, they showcased complete dominance from the start of the innings. Their in-form captain, Alyssa Healy, once again showcased why she is ranked among the top batters in the world. She took down all the Bangladeshi bowlers with confidence, making full use of the surface that supported good stroke play. Her innings of 113 runs gave Australia a solid base that ultimately turned the match in their favor.
Alongside Alyssa Healy, Phoebe Litchfield also played a strong knock of 84 runs. She made a solid partnership with the Australian captain that ultimately allowed the Aussies to defeat Bangladesh with a big margin. This commanding victory has uplifted the confidence of the Aussies, who now look well set to win this year’s ICC Women’s World Cup.
