Shadab’s Knock in Vain as Australia Cruise Past Pakistan in Second ODI

Shadab’s Knock in Vain as Australia Cruise Past Pakistan in Second ODI

Australia defeated Pakistan in the second ODI, as Nathan Ellis took 4 wickets to stun the home side at Lahore. Despite Shadab’s valiant batting effort, the green shirts failed to chase down 232 in the second innings. With this victory, Australia have now levelled the ODI series 1-1, making the next encounter the ultimate decider.

Batting first, Australia didn’t have a great start, as they lost Alex Carey on the first ball of the innings. Josh Inglis and Matthew Short then built a partnership to take the team out of trouble, but Abrar Ahmed struck in the 8th over to dismiss the latter on 15 runs.

Inglis then played steadily alongside Cameron Green, who batted in a different gear in today’s match. The duo made sure to absorb the pressure, as Pakistani bowlers kept searching for wickets during the middle overs.

After scoring 51 off 74 balls, Inglis lost his wicket in the 27th over, but Cameron Green held the other end firmly. He built a partnership with Matt Renshaw to take the scoreboard forward, making sure that the Aussies do not lose more wickets.

Green then went back to the pavilion after scoring 53 runs with the help of 3 boundaries. Matt Renshaw and Oliver Peake then played little cameos towards the end, helping Australia to score 231 in the first innings.

When Pakistan came out to bat, they stumbled early in the chase due to losing the top order. The star batter Babar Azam got out on 16, while Sahibzada Farhan and Maaz Sadaqat were dismissed for just 3 and 0.

The middle order of Pakistan then faced the same fate, except for Ghazi Ghori, who played a valiant knock of 37 runs. Shadab Khan and Arafat Minhas then built a steady partnership that brought some life back into the game. The duo was looking good to take the chase deep, but Nathan Ellis struck in the 32nd over to dismiss Minhas on 33.

Meanwhile, Shadab remained firm at the other end despite losing the lower order quickly. He was the lone warrior in the second innings, who tried his best to chase down the target.

After playing a fighting knock of 71, he lost his wicket in the 44th over, and that eventually wrapped up Pakistan’s innings. The Aussies finally bowled out Pakistan on 190 and levelled the series 1-1. Nathan Ellis was then named Player of the Match, as his remarkable bowling spell in the second innings gave the Aussies an edge over the green shirts.
