Ackeem Auguste lit up Gros Islet on Tuesday night with a breathtaking 73 off just 35 balls to guide St Lucia Kings to a four-wicket victory over Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Caribbean Premier League. The 21-year-old’s knock, filled with clean hitting and fearless stroke play, stole the spotlight from Romario Shepherd’s unbeaten 73 off 34 that had earlier carried the Warriors to 202 for six.

The contest turned into a batting feast after Warriors stumbled early at 44 for three inside the powerplay. Shepherd shifted momentum with a savage assault on Oshane Thomas, who leaked 33 runs in a single over, the most expensive in Kings’ CPL history. With Iftikhar Ahmed adding a steady 33, Warriors pushed past 200, a total they had never lost defending before in the tournament.

In reply to 203, the St Lucia openers perished early leaving Auguste and Tim Seifert to counterattack, scoring at over eight runs per over in the powerplay. Auguste played his first ever CPL half century in 19-balls, the fastest of the season before being dismissed off 73. As the match tightened, skipper David Wiese hit the winning runs with 11 balls left to play.

St Lucia Kings moved to second place with the win. They now sit just one point behind Antigua and Barbuda Falcons. Guyana Amazon Warriors lost for the first time after scoring 200 or more. The points table is tight and the fans are following every news and game live on tapmad.
