DUBAI: Bangladesh won the Asia Cup 2025 match by a large margin of seven wickets as it defeated Hong Kong in a fierce bowling performance and a consistent run by Litton Das and Towhid Hridoy at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium on Thursday.
With a humble, modest target of 144, Bangladesh passed the line easily in only 16.4 overs. The Tigers did not seem to be under real pressure even when they lost Parvez Hossain Emon (19) and Tanzid Hasan (14) within the powerplay.
At 47-2 captain Litton Das joined hands with Towhid Hridoy and the two put together of 95 together. Not only did their association fix the innings but they also made sure that there were no late jitters. Hridoy and Litton scored the decisive blow by their fluent tone and calm stroke respectively and gave Bangladesh their first win in the tournament.
Earlier, Hong Kong had scored 143-7 after being asked to bat first. Their innings got off to a poor start as they lost Anshy Rath (4) and Babar Hayat (14) at a cheap price. Though Nizakat Khan led the way with a fighting 42 out of 40 balls, aided by Yasim Murtaza with 28 out of 19, the middle order did not get the necessary momentum to score a higher score.
In the case of Bangladesh, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Taskin Ahmed and Rishad Hossain each took two wickets, which in turn exerted pressure during the innings, and Hong Kong did not have the time to run away in the death overs.
The victory provides Bangladesh with the much needed confidence in the run up to the tournament even though Hong Kong will seek to quickly recover after squandering their opening.
