Arsenal Return to Premier League Summit After Narrow Win Over Newcastle

Arsenal Return to Premier League Summit After Narrow Win Over Newcastle

Arsenal moved back to the top of the Premier League points table with a narrow 1-0 win over Newcastle United at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

Eberechi Eze scored the only goal of the match, which was also Arsenal’s 100th league goal against Newcastle. He hit a brilliant shot from outside the box to secure all three points for Mikel Arteta’s side.

It was a match with very few clear chances, but Arsenal did enough to go above Manchester City and stay in the race for their first league title in 22 years.

The goal came early, just nine minutes in. After a short corner, Kai Havertz passed the ball to Eze on the edge of the box, and he struck it powerfully past Nick Pope, with the ball curling out of the goalkeeper’s reach.

Later in the game, both Eze and Havertz picked up injuries, which could be a concern for Arteta ahead of the final matches.

Newcastle struggled to create chances and never really looked like scoring. Their poor league form continues, and they are now closer to the relegation zone than the top five, increasing the pressure on Eddie Howe.

This result also means Newcastle have now gone 14 straight league visits to the Emirates without a win, managing just one point in that run.

Even though Arsenal got the win, the title race remains very close. It could come down to goal difference or goals scored, and Arsenal’s lack of attacking push in this game may still be a worry.

It should be noted that Manchester City has one extra game in hand as compared to Arsenal, so they are in a better position to lift the title. The upcoming matches of both sides are therefore important, as they cannot afford a slip-up in any game due to tough competition on the Premier League points table.
